Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the strong and longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, stating that the bilateral relations of the two countries have progressed from “cordial to excellent” over time.
The reception held in connection with the UAE’s 54th National Day began with the national anthems of Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. The chief guest, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, said that the relations between the two brotherly countries are moving forward on the basis of shared values, mutual respect, and a long history of cooperation.
He extended warm congratulations to the leadership and people of the United Arab Emirates on this national occasion, adding that the UAE has always stood by Pakistan in difficult times. Highlighting the UAE’s consistent support during economic challenges, natural disasters, and regional crises, he expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the Pakistani nation.
The Prime Minister said that the UAE’s support in the IMF programme has been extremely valuable; without this support, the IMF programme would not have been possible.
UAE Ambassador Salem Mohammed Al Zaabi, in his address, paid tribute to the historic union of the Emirates formed in 1971 under the leadership of the founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (late).
He said that the alignment of this year’s celebrations with the declaration of 2025 as the UAE’s “Year of Community” reaffirms that the country’s leadership believes in the vital role played by all citizens and residents. “United” reflects the fundamental values — including solidarity, harmony, and tolerance — that have played a crucial role in the UAE’s remarkable development over the past five decades. Al Zaabi emphasized that there is tremendous potential for cooperation in various sectors, including renewable energy, artificial intelligence, sustainability, economic diversification, and agricultural innovation.
On the occasion, a short documentary video showcasing the UAE’s development was also presented. The reception was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar along with several ministers, ambassadors, and prominent political and social figures. The guests jointly cut a cake as part of the celebration.
