The Federal Cabinet has given its assent to deployment of Pakistan Army soldiers to guard during the ICC Champions Trophy matches which will kick off in the country from February 19, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday, quoting its sources.
The sources further said that Pakistan Army, civil armed forces, police and law-enforcement agencies will jointly perform the security responsibility during the tournament.
The requests forwarded by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Punjab and Sindh government for security were approved by the federal cabinet under Article 245 of the Constitution.
To play the Champions Trophy, teams will start arriving in Pakistan from February 12.
According to the sources, the Interior Ministry has issues directives to agencies and provincial home departments for making arrangements to ensure foolproof security of the playing teams.
The teams will be given President level security during the Champions Trophy, the sources added.
