Alaska Airlines on Wednesday announced its biggest-ever airplane order -- involving 110 new Boeing aircraft -- as it pushes to grow its network of routes.
The order includes 105 narrowbody 737 MAX 10 planes and five 787 widebody jets, alongside options for 35 more 737-10 aircraft, the companies said.
The delivery stream will be extended through 2035, they added.
"These planes will fuel our expansion to more destinations across the globe," said Ben Minicucci, chief executive of the Alaska Air Group.
The Seattle-based airline added that this order is the biggest in its history and secures key delivery slots.
The announcement builds on Alaska Airlines' announcement in recent years to buy Hawaiian Airlines for $1.9 billion, growing access to Asia-Pacific markets.
The five new 787 widebody jets will help expand the airlines' long-haul service to and from Europe and Asia, allowing it to fly to at least 12 long-haul international destinations from Seattle by 2030, Boeing and Alaska Airlines said.
The deal helps to boost confidence in the 737-10, the largest variant of the jet, whose certification by regulators is behind schedule.
Alaska Air Group's carriers are expected to run a fleet of more than 475 aircraft by 2030 and more than 550 aircraft by 2035, the company said.
