The Motorway Police have closed the M5 motorway from Multan to Rohri due to dense fog, citing concerns for public safety.
According to Syed Imran Ahmed, spokesperson for the Motorway Police Central Region, the decision to close the motorway was taken to protect the lives and property of road users, as reduced visibility significantly increases the risk of accidents.
He warned that lane violations during foggy conditions can lead to serious and sometimes fatal accidents. Motorists have been strongly advised to strictly follow lane discipline and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of low visibility.
The Motorway Police recommended that travellers plan their journeys during safer daytime hours, stating that travel between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm is relatively safer in fog-prone conditions. Drivers have also been instructed to use fog lights, avoid over-speeding, and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
The spokesperson further urged road users to remain cautious and seek assistance when needed. For guidance and up-to-date information, motorists can contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130.
