Two youths sustained serious injuries on Monday after being hit by a double-cabin vehicle in the Ancholi area of Karachi, in an incident that sparked public outrage and drew significant attention on social media.
According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the vehicle is allegedly registered in the name of Syed Zafar Abbas, the head of the JDC Foundation, a well-known social welfare organization.
The incident occurred when the double-cabin vehicle ran over the two youths, leaving them in critical condition.
As the accident unfolded, an angry crowd quickly gathered at the site.
The driver and passengers of the vehicle fled, but not before the vehicle’s number plate fell off, allowing bystanders to identify the owner.
Police and media reports confirmed that the number plate traced back to Syed Zafar Abbas.
Shortly after, Zafar Abbas himself arrived at the scene.
However, tensions flared further as eyewitnesses alleged that members of his team tried to snatch mobile phones from people who were recording the aftermath.
A video showing a heated altercation between Zafar Abbas and locals quickly went viral on social media, further inflaming public sentiments.
Amid the backlash, Zafar Abbas reportedly assured that medical treatment would be provided to the injured youths, who were rushed to a nearby hospital and are said to be in critical condition.
