In an incredible display of selflessness, a British-Kashmiri man sacrificed his lifetime savings by selling 5 properties in the UK to fund the construction of 35 modern schools for children in the earthquake-devastated areas of Azad Kashmir, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Chaudhary Muhammad Aslam, who originally belongs to Mirpur, has redefined the meaning of humanitarian service by dedicating his life’s earnings to the future of children in his homeland.
After giving almost 50 years of his life to hard work in the United Kingdom, Chaudhry Aslam returned to Azad Kashmir in 2023.
The conditions he witnessed upon arrival entirely changed the trajectory of his life.
More than 15 years after the catastrophic earthquake of October 8, 2005, an event which turned more than 2,400 schools to rubble, numerous schools still lay in ruins.
The children in remote areas continued to sit on bare ground, exposed to the harsh elements of sun, rain, and cold, as they sought to pursue their education.
That moment changed the course of his life.
Upon returning to the UK, Chaudhry Aslam made a remarkable decision.
Aslam sold all five of his houses which were worth crores of rupees, and donated the entirety of the proceeds to a cause long neglected by the state.
His objective was to provide the children of Azad Kashmir with the schools they had always deserved.
Working in collaboration with the UK-based humanitarian organization Muslim Charity, Chaudhry Aslam has funded and overseen the construction of 35 modern schools across the earthquake-affected districts of Bagh, Haveli, Pallandri, Rawalakot, and Muzaffarabad.
Today, thousands of young minds in Azad Kashmir are receiving their education in safe, well-equipped classrooms, where they are given the opportunity to envision a brighter future for themselves.
