India crushed Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in the one-off Test on Monday after piling up a huge first-innings total and producing a clinical bowling performance at the Maharaja Singh PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh, 24NewsHD TV reported.

The hosts dominated the match from the outset, declaring their first innings on 564-8 before dismissing Afghanistan twice for 152 and 112 to seal one of their biggest Test victories.

After electing to bat, India built a formidable total.

Shubman Gill led the scoring with a fluent 126 off 177 balls, hitting 15 fours and a six.

He was well supported by KL Rahul, who struck 100 from 165 deliveries, while Rishabh Pant added an aggressive 81.

Sai Sudharsan also contributed 81, and Washington Sundar remained unbeaten on 52 as India's batsmen overwhelmed the Afghanistan attack.

For Afghanistan, Mohammad Saleem was the standout bowler, claiming 6-140 in 27 overs, while Ziaur Rahman and Hashmatullah Shahidi took one wicket each.

Afghanistan's reply never threatened to challenge India's dominance.

The visitors were bowled out for 152 in their first innings, trailing by 412 runs and forcing India to enforce the follow-on.

Rahmat Shah provided the only significant resistance with a determined 60 from 135 balls, while captain Hashmatullah Shahidi made 20.

The rest of the batting line-up struggled against a disciplined Indian bowling attack.

Making his Test debut, Manav Suthar starred with the ball, taking 6-33 in 22 overs. Prasidh Krishna claimed three wickets and Washington Sundar added one.

Asked to bat again, Afghanistan fared little better in the second innings and were dismissed for 112 in 35.5 overs. No batter managed a half-century, with opener Sediqullah Atal top-scoring with 42, while Rahmanullah Gurbaz contributed a brisk 24.

Washington Sundar led India's second-innings bowling effort with figures of 4 wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav claimed three.
