Former Punjab minister Aleem Khan, who yesterday announced joining Jahangir Khan Tareen (JKT) group, Tuesday arrived in Islamabad where he was expected to meet Prime Minister Imran Khan but not yet as the ex-minister said he would first hold consultations with Jahangir Tareen, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
Sources divulged to the TV channel that Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Sindh Governor Imran Ismael met with Aleem Khan at his residence in Islamabad and conveyed the prime minister's for meeting.
Aleem Khan, the sources added, responded that he will first hold consultations with estranged PTI leader Jahangir Tareen who is currently in London for medical treatment, then he would meet the prime minister.
The sources said Aleem Khan will leave for London today where he would hold consultations with Jahangir Tareen on a string of important political issues.
Sources privy to the development reveal that a government committee was making attempts to arrange a meeting between Prime Minister Imran Khan and estranged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aleem Khan.
Earlier, Aleem Khan yesterday had announced joining the JKT group — an estranged faction within the ruling PTI — while expressing his reservations on the Punjab government.
He had attended a meeting at the residence of Jahangir Khan Tareen in Model Town, Lahore before formally announcing that he was joining the JKT group.
He said that his decision of joining the JKT group was aimed at uniting all the alienated members and groups of the PTI.
He also said that Jahangir Khan Tareen was one of the most important faces at the beginning of Imran-led government, but surprisingly, he was ignored by the prime minister without explaining the reason.
Punjab Minister for Communications Sardar Asif Nikai and Rafaqat Ali Gilani MPA had also attended the meeting.
