Saudi Arabia has said that its air defence systems shot down eight drones after they entered the kingdom’s airspace, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to an official statement from the defence ministry, the Saudi Ministry of Defence said the drones were intercepted and destroyed by the country’s air defence system shortly after crossing into Saudi airspace.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the ministry’s spokesperson confirmed that the drones had been successfully neutralised before they could pose any threat.
The statement, however, did not specify the region where the incident took place or identify the group or country responsible for launching the drones.
Saudi authorities did not immediately release further details about the incident, including the type of drones or the circumstances under which they entered the kingdom’s airspace.
