The Punjab Home Department on Sunday issued a notification for an extension in Section 144 and barred all public rallies, gatherings, and demonstrations till March 14, 2026, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

As per the notification, a complete ban is imposed on gatherings of four or more than four persons at public places.

The notification further stated that the carrying, display, or brandishing of all types of weapons, whether licensed or unlicensed, has also been banned in public places across the province.

However, the restriction does not apply to personnel of law enforcement and security agencies performing official duties.

The ban on public gatherings does not extend to marriage ceremonies, funeral prayers, burial processions, official meetings in government or semi-government offices, or court proceedings.

Earlier on March 1, 2026, the Punjab government had imposed Section 144 across the province in view of emerging security conditions and credible threat alerts indicating potential risks to public peace and order.
