A woman’s attempt to rob a jewellery shop in Indian's city Ahmedabad took a dramatic turn when the shopkeeper fought back, preventing the robbery and forcing the would-be thief to flee.

According to reports, the incident occurred in a gold and silver shop in Gujarat, where a woman entered posing as a customer. CCTV footage of the incident, which has since gone on social media, shows the woman with her face covered by a dupatta. After spending a few moments pretending to browse jewellery, she suddenly tried to throw red chilli powder into the shopkeeper’s eyes in an attempt to rob him.

However, the attempt failed when the powder missed its target. Realizing what was happening, the shopkeeper immediately retaliated—slapping the woman repeatedly before dragging her out of the shop. The footage shows the confrontation lasting around 25 seconds.

Police officials confirmed that the shopkeeper has declined to file a formal complaint. “We met the shopkeeper twice and requested him to file a complaint, but he does not wish to pursue the case,” an Ahmedabad police spokesperson said. “A written statement has been taken from him, and efforts are underway to identify the woman using CCTV footage.”

The incident has sparked widespread discussion online, with many social media users praising the shopkeeper’s quick reaction while others have raised concerns about taking the law into one’s own hands.

Police investigations are continuing to locate the suspect.
