Rawalpindi SSP Operations Faisal Saleem Saturday claimed to have apprehended 96 gangs and recovered Rs20 million stolen money from their possessions during the period of one year, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported.
Addressing a press conference, he said that two members of the gang involved in vehicle theft have been nabbed and a search for the others is underway. He said that the gangsters snatched expensive cars at gunpoint at night and shot people if they retaliated.
They took the cars to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other such areas for sale. However, various expensive cars have been recovered from their custody and handed over the same to their owners.
Mentioning the steps taken for drug control, he stated that 57 drug peddlers have been traced and 17 areas in the division have already been cleared off.
SSP Operations Faisal Saleem said that a deadline has been given to illegal Afghans nationals during a meeting presided by the Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi.
The data in Punjab has not yet been compiled properly.
Action will be taken ‘Hotspot’ areas including Pir Wadhai, Dhamial, Dhok Noor, Taxila and other places as soon as the compilation is done, he concluded.
