CTO Lahore Dr Athar Waheed has ordered the immediate impounding of 2,546 vehicles, which have been blacklisted on account of the non-payment of e-challans by their drivers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
The CTO has said that these vehicles will be immediately traced through an automatic system, and they will not be handed over to their drivers so long as they do not pay the challan.
He has further said that all traffic police personnel have been ordered to check e-challans of each and every vehicle.
Waheed has said that the cameras have been installed throughout the city to capture the images of drivers violating traffic signals, and that the payment of fines is obligatory on them.
He has informed that initially, the vehicles whose drivers have not paid over 50 e-challans have been blacklisted.
The CTO has acknowledged that the latest technology has helped maintain traffic discipline and elevate the standards of road safety.
He has expressed the hope that action against the blacklisted vehicles will help control the violations of traffic rules.
