Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the National Disaster Management Authority to expedite ongoing relief efforts and ensure full preparedness for potential flood emergencies caused by rising river levels, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
PM Shehbaz Sharif was presiding over a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Monday to review the flood situation and the progress of rescue and relief operations.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for early warnings and timely evacuation of communities residing near rivers and in high-risk areas.
He also directed the NDMA to maintain close coordination with provincial governments and their respective disaster management authorities to ensure a unified response.
Shehbaz Sharif stressed that the search for missing persons in flood-affected regions must be accelerated.
Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik briefed the Prime Minister on the current status of river flooding and flood streams across the country, along with ongoing relief operations for the affected citizens.
The Prime Minister was also apprised of the displacement of populations due to flooding and the scale of ongoing rescue efforts.
The briefing highlighted severe flood conditions at Trimmu Barrage, Panjnad Barrage, Head Balloki, Head Sidhnai, Ganda Singh Wala, Head Sulaimanki, and Head Islam on the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers.
Additionally, the Prime Minister was informed that relief convoys carrying essential aid supplies are being dispatched continuously to the flood-affected areas.
