The Sindh government has dismissed Muhammad Iqbal Dathu from his position as Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission following allegations of harassment against women, officials confirmed Monday.

According to a notification issued by the Human Rights Department, Dathu’s removal was carried out under the Sindh Protection of Human Rights Act, 2013. The decision came after a sub-committee of the Sindh Cabinet conducted an inquiry into the allegations and submitted its findings.

The Sindh Cabinet formally approved his dismissal, recommending that Dathu be relieved of his duties. He had originally been appointed to the post with the cabinet’s approval.

Following his removal, the administrative system of the Sindh Human Rights Commission has been placed under the direct control of the Human Rights Department until further orders.
