The Supreme Court of Pakistan has unanimously approved the Supreme Court Rules 2025 during a full court meeting held Monday, declaring them a “living document” that will evolve with time and judicial requirements.
According to an official announcement, the meeting was attended by 21 judges, including Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahaya Afridi. Four judges. Four judges including Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Ayesha Malik, and Justice Athar Minallah did not attend.
During the session, the implementation of court fee and security rules was halted, with the matter referred to the judges’ committee for further review. The new rules will be formally implemented after the committee’s decision.
Justice Shahid Waheed briefed the full court on the draft rules, which were deliberated upon in detail before being adopted with consensus. Chief Justice Afrifi praised the efforts of the Rules Making Committee, paying tribute to its work in preparing the new framework.
The court emphasised that the rules have been designed to meet modern requirements and will remain adaptable to changing times. “Amendments in the Rules will strengthen the institutional framework of the judiciary,” the announcement stated.
The Supreme Court Rules 2025 will continue to be reviewed and amended as needed to ensure their relevance and effectiveness in strengthening judicial procedures.
