The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Muhammad Saeed met with the World Bank Country Director for Pakistan, Ms Bolormaa Amgabbazar, on Monday to discuss financial matters related to major hydropower initiatives in the country, 24NewsHD TV reported.
The meeting focused on the Dasu Hydropower Project and the Tarbela fifth extension project, both of which are crucial to Pakistan’s long-term energy security.
During the discussions, it was highlighted that the World Bank has committed $ 1.517 billion for the Dasu Hydropower Project and $390 million for the Tarbela fifth extension project.
The WAPDA chairman remarked that these projects are not only pivotal for meeting Pakistan’s growing energy demands but also essential for providing low-cost and environmentally friendly electricity to the national grid.
He described the World Bank as an important development partner in harnessing Pakistan’s hydropower potential.
Lt Gen (retd) Muhammad Saeed emphasized that the Dasu and Tarbela projects will significantly contribute to sustainable energy production in the country.
He noted that the projects would play a key role in securing Pakistan’s energy future while ensuring affordability and sustainability.
World Bank Country Director Ms Amgabbazar praised WAPDA’s role in promoting renewable and eco-friendly power generation in Pakistan.
She reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s efforts in the water and hydropower sectors, stressing that cooperation will continue to advance the development of clean and sustainable energy in the country.
