A man deprived of both arms was discharged by a court in Islamabad after police arrested him in a case related to an August 5 protest held to express solidarity with the jailed former prime minister Imran Khan.
The accused, identified as Altafullah, was produced before Duty Magistrate Rizwanuddin at the District and Sessions Courts Islamabad.
According to details presented before the court, a case had been registered against Altafullah at the Koral Police Station on allegations of hitting people with sticks and throwing stones during the protest.
Advocate Sardar Masroof appeared on behalf of the accused and argued that his client could not have committed the alleged acts because both of his arms were missing. “He does not have both arms; how could he throw stones?” the lawyer argued before the court.
The accused’s arms were examined in the courtroom, where it was confirmed that both arms were missing.
After hearing the arguments and examining the accused, the court discharged Altafullah from the case.
The case had been registered at Koral Police Station in connection with the August 5 protest.
