Friends of Mir Raza staged a late-night sit-in on Karachi's Shahrah-e-Faisal, blocking the road at Nursery and causing disruption to traffic heading towards Baloch Colony, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the report, the protesters gathered at Nursery and chanted slogans in support of Mir Raza. A heavy contingent of police was deployed at the site as authorities monitored the demonstration.

Traffic police officials told the media that the sit-in continued until 4am, after which the protesters dispersed and traffic movement was restored on the affected route.

The protest came as police continued to investigate the Mir Raza Ali case. Police officials said the previous investigation team had been dissolved and a new team formed following the receipt of an initial medical report.

The new team will be headed by Crime Branch DIG Amir Farooqui. Its members include CTD SSP Irfan Bahadur, SP Investigation Korangi Qais Khan and SP Investigation Central Anam Sahiba, according to Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho.

The police chief said the previous team was removed after the initial medical report was received. The new team will review the case in light of all available evidence, including the new post-mortem report.

IG Odho assured that the investigation would be transparent and that every aspect of the case would be examined thoroughly. Police officials said the case would be taken to its logical conclusion on the basis of evidence.

A formal notification establishing the new investigation team is expected to be issued soon.
