The Punjab cabinet has not fixed sugarcane price this year, leaving growers at the mercy of sugar mills, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.
Cashing in on the situation, the mills are buying sugarcane at lower rates.
Last year, the Punjab government fixed the sugarcane price at Rs400 per 40kg.
This year, sugar mills are buying sugarcane from Rs350 per 40kg to Rs375 per 40kg.
The farmers demand the government fix fixed sugarcane price.
