Police have revealed shocking details regarding the deaths of three women inside a Gulshan-e-Iqbal apartment, Karachi, on Sunday, with investigators alleging the involvement of the son, Yasin, and the head of the household as the main perpetrators.
The victims have been identified as Samina, 52, her 19-year-old daughter Samreen, and her 22-year-old daughter-in-law Maha. Muhammad Yasin, Samina’s son, was found unconscious at the scene and taken to the hospital.
Investigators said the family was reportedly burdened with debts exceeding Rs15 million.
Police noted that the residence and one of the vehicles used by the suspects were rented, while another car at the property was bank-leased.
Yasin was reportedly working as a property agent.
According to investigators, the suspects allegedly laced juice with poison and gave it to the women. The father and son had reportedly intended to drink the poisoned juice themselves, but the father could not follow through after seeing his son in critical condition.
A note found in the father’s possession is currently under examination. Officials said Yasin’s wife, Maha, was allegedly poisoned first, and her body was confined to a room. Police believe the suspects may have taken this extreme step to evade creditors.
Senior police officials confirmed that a case has been registered under Section 302 (premeditated murder) and that investigations are ongoing to gather additional details.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East Zubair Nazir Ahmed Shaikh, Yasin has regained consciousness, but investigators have been unable to record his statement as he is “not cooperating.”
He added that police have some leads, but it is too early to disclose specifics.
