Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the provincial governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to come up with easy procedures for setting up new markets for farm products in the two provinces.

The prime minister has told the two provinces to develop easy procedures for setting up new markets and make it more convenient for the private sector to invest in these markets.

The prime minister also directed the provinces to review the percentage of wheat that was being ground as part of government’s efforts to increase flour production and decrease the flour prices. He expressed his concern at the difference between the wholesale rates and retail rates of daily use items.

The prime minister said that a lack of enforcement of rate lists pointed to negligence at the administrative level. He said that a limited number of markets was the reason that farmers were being exploited in the country and brokers were earning undue profit on farmers’ products. As a result, he said, prices of daily use items would increase.
