Pakistan’s Global Industrial and Defence Solutions (GIDS) has unveiled a new hypersonic anti-ship ballistic missile, named ‘SMASH’, at the ongoing World Defense Show 2026 in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.
Designed with a dual-role operational concept, the SMASH missile is capable of striking both naval and land-based targets, allowing a single missile platform to be employed across multiple mission profiles.
In its anti-ship configuration, the missile has a reported range of 290 kilometres and carries a 384-kilogram warhead.
The missile employs an HD GNSS-assisted inertial navigation system integrated with an active radar seeker, enabling high-precision targeting against moving maritime assets.
GIDS claims the missile can execute attacks at near-vertical angles, enhancing its ability to evade modern air and missile defence systems.
The SMASH missile is powered by a single-stage, dual-thrust solid rocket motor, with the company stating that its circular error probable (CEP) is 10 metres or less.
During the terminal phase, the missile is capable of reaching speeds of over Mach 2, placing it firmly in the hypersonic category.
For land-attack missions, the missile retains the same 290-kilometre range, but the warhead weight has been increased to 444 kilograms to enhance destructive capability.
This variant relies solely on HD GNSS-assisted inertial navigation for guidance.
Its reported accuracy stands at 15 metres or less CEP, while terminal-phase speeds are also said to exceed Mach 2.
GIDS officials emphasised that the SMASH missile has been developed to meet the growing demand for long-range, high-precision strike weapons, particularly in contested and high-threat environments.
Defence analysts note that the Middle East and other volatile regions are witnessing an increased focus on precision-guided, high-speed strike systems, positioning SMASH as a potentially attractive option for modern militaries seeking versatile and cost-effective missile solutions.
