Second phase of hearing of Indus Waters Arbitration case has been completed in The Hague. Pakistan was represented at the Permanent Court of Arbitration by Attorney General Mansoor Usman. Indus Water Treaty Commissioner Mehar Ali and delegates were also present.
During the hearing, Pakistan raised objections to India's design on hydro projects. Pakistan told the International Court of Justice that India was violating the agreement on the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab rivers.
During the heating, the International Court of Arbitration observed that it was necessary to determine the installed capacity and expected flow of India's projects. Pakistan demanded that the court should interpret the permission given to India to set up projects on three rivers under the Indus Waters Treaty. India failed to attend the hearing despite notices.
The bench of the arbitration court was headed by American professor Sean D. Murphy. The hearing was also attended by other international judges. The International Court of Arbitration is an international dispute resolution body consisting of 127 countries.
