Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat on Friday sought parents' opinion on extension of winter holidays at schools and colleges, triggering a wide response from citizens.

According to the results of the public poll, more than 80 percent of respondents supported reopening schools and colleges on January 19, indicating strong backing for resuming academic activities after the winter break.

Meanwhile, over 15 percent of citizens voted in favour of reopening educational institutions from January 12.

The poll was conducted to gauge parents’ views amid ongoing discussions on whether winter holidays should be extended due to weather conditions. The results suggest that a clear majority of parents and citizens are in favor of reopening educational institutions later in January rather than an earlier return.

Education department officials said the feedback would be taken into consideration before a final decision is announced. The provincial government is expected to issue an official notification regarding the reopening schedule for schools and colleges in the coming days.
