Samar Haroon Bilour, a prominent figure of the Awami National Party (ANP) and a member of the well-known Bilour family, has joined Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after meeting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Samar Bilour, widow of Haroon Bilour and daughter-in-law of late Bashir Bilour, officially joined PML-N after meeting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad.
Expressing confidence in the country’s development journey under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Samar Bilour from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa joined the PML-N.
Saeeda Jamshed and Jamshed Mohmand were also present in the meeting which was also attended by Advisor to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah, Federal Minister for Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir Affairs and KP President of PML-N Engineer Amir Muqam, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yousaf, Minister for Public Affairs Unit Rana Mubashir and Provincial General Secretary of the PML-N Murtaza Javed Abbasi.
Samar Bilour paid tribute to the Prime Minister's leadership for the country's economic stability, people-friendly budget and the right direction of the country's economic development. “I want Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to also move on the path of development on the model of the Federation and Punjab,” she said.
Samar Bilour reiterated her commitment to serve the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa together with the Prime Minister and the party leadership.
The Prime Minister welcomed Samar Bilour to the party, expressing his best wishes for her future. The Prime Minister also praised Samar Haroon Bilour's spirit of public service.
Samar, the widow of slain ANP leader Haroon Bashir Bilour, previously served as a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and held the position of provincial information secretary for the ANP.
It is pertinent to mention here that Samar Haroon Bilour made history in 2018 by winning a by-election and becoming the first woman in 16 years to be elected to the KP Assembly from a general seat in Peshawar.
She served as an active MPA from October 24, 2018, to January 18, 2023. In June 2020, she was appointed ANP’s provincial information secretary for KP.
Her decision marks a significant political shift, especially given her family’s longstanding association with the ANP.
