Croatian FM calls on PM Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, lauds Pakistan’s role in regional peace efforts

Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia Dr Gordan Grlić Radman called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the PM House in Islamabad on Thursday and discussed a string of issues, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch were also present in the meeting.

During the warm and cordial meeting, the Prime Minister welcomed the Croatian Foreign Minister and his delegation to Pakistan, stating Pakistan enjoyed friendly relations with Croatia, marked by cordiality, mutual respect and shared interest.

He expressed Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly through enhanced trade and investment, information technology, connectivity, agriculture, tourism and skilled manpower.

While conveying his warm regards and good wishes to President Zoran Milanovic and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, the Prime Minister extended a cordial invitation to both leaders to undertake official visits to Pakistan, at their kind convenience.

The Croatian Foreign Minister thanked the Prime Minister for the warm welcome and said that he was honoured to visit Islamabad and congratulated Pakistan and its leadership, on playing a prominent role in regional peace efforts.

He also expressed his government’s desire to enhance Pakistan-Croatia ties in all areas of mutual interest.

Pakistan, Croatia agree to boost political, economic relations

Pakistan and Croatia have agreed to undertake steps to inject greater momentum into their political and economic relations. An understanding to this effect came at a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Croatian Foreign Minister Dr Gordan Grlic Radman in Islamabad.

Later in a joint press stakeout, the Deputy Prime Minister said they have agreed to promote cooperation in all areas of mutual interest including trade, investment, agriculture, labour mobility, visa facilitation, education, defense, climate change, tourism, infrastructure, IT and seaport collaboration.

He said the two sides have decided to make the MOU on bilateral political consultations between the two foreign ministries fully functional and hold the consultations on a regular periodic basis.  He said we have agreed to revitalize our bilateral trade and economic relations including through supporting B2B exchanges.

Ishaq Dar said he invited the Croatian side to benefit from Pakistan's favourable investment policies.

The Deputy Prime Minister said he briefed the Croatian side on the potential, capacity and connectivity of Karachi Port. Both sides discussed the possibility of collaborative arrangements between the ports of two countries.

Ishaq Dar said they are working together to expedite the opening of a Croatian visa processing facility in Islamabad, emphasizing this will be a welcome relief for Pakistani applicants for Croatian visa by sparing them   from travelling to a third country to obtain the visa.

The Deputy Prime Minister said both sides also agreed to continue working on legal pathways for the employment of Pakistan's skilled workforce in Croatia.

In his remarks on the occasion, the Croatian Foreign Minister said his country greatly values people-to-people contacts and that it will like to enable Pakistani citizens to submit visa applications in Pakistan.

He said our bilateral relationship is based on friendship and mutual respect. He expressed the confidence that this visit will further strengthen this relationship.

The Croatian Foreign Minister appreciated Pakistan's diplomatic efforts that resulted in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding to end the conflict between the US and Iran.

He said Croatia actively supports the participation of women in UN peacekeeping missions. He said Croatia will welcome Pakistan's female police officers at its pre-deployment trainings that are certified by the UN.

Croatian FM holds talks with DPM

Foreign Minister of Croatia Dr Gordan Grlic Radman earlier arrived at the Foreign Office in Islamabad for talks with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. On arrival, he was received by the Deputy Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, delegation-level talks were held underway between Pakistan and Croatia at the Foreign Office in Islamabad.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar led the Pakistani delegation while the Croatian side was led by its Foreign Minister Dr Gordan Grlic Radman.

In his opening remarks, Ishaq Dar expressed Pakistan's commitment to deepening engagement with Croatia for sustainable bilateral partnership and closer cooperation within the European Union framework.

The Croatian Foreign Minister said today's meeting provides an excellent opportunity to exchange views on bilateral relations. He said both the countries have excellent relations and there is room to further improve them in the areas of economy and business.

The Croatian Foreign Minister appreciated Pakistan's diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue and de-escalation in the Middle East. He said we welcome all initiatives that contribute to peace and stability in the region.
