Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered the immediate registration of all unregistered restaurants and wedding halls across the province, vowing to broaden the tax net without burdening the public with additional taxes, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Monday.
In a special high-level meeting, the Chief Minister approved the decision to register both small and large hospitality establishments, declaring that tax evasion in the name of informality will no longer be tolerated.
“All proposals to increase taxes have been rejected,” Maryam Nawaz announced firmly, emphasising that the focus should be on expanding the tax base, not squeezing the already burdened public.
She criticised the current disparity, stating, “A person earning Rs 200,000 pays tax while someone making crores walks free? That won’t be allowed.”
The Chief Minister directed the Punjab Revenue Authority, Mines and Minerals Department, and other relevant agencies to identify new revenue streams and enforce strict compliance among businesses. “We can't allow a system where those who voluntarily register are penalised and evaders continue to enjoy life without accountability,” she said.
Maryam Nawaz made it clear that her government is committed to fiscal reforms without adding financial pressure on the common man, aligning with her policy of fair taxation and inclusive economic governance.
