A tragic incident occurred near the RQ Link Adu Sokhli Bridge in Phalia, where two teenage friends drowned while bathing in a canal, rescue sources confirmed on Monday.
According to Rescue 1122, the victims were identified as 19-year-old Khurram, a resident of Pahari Anwali, and 16-year-old Hassan, hailing from Phare. The duo had entered the canal to cool off but were swept away by the current.
A search operation is being led by Rescue 1122 in-charge Shaukat Ali Ranjha, with teams actively combing the area. So far, the body of Khurram has been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to locate Hassan.
Rescue officials have once again warned the public, especially youth, to avoid swimming in canals due to strong undercurrents and lack of safety infrastructure.
