Open manhole claimed the life of a woman who was riding on a motorcycle along with her husband in Pattoki, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
According to the details, the woman who was later identified as Shamim was a mother of four children. She went to buy some medicines from a pharmacy along with her husband.
On their way to the pharmacy, their motorcycle severely hit the manhole, which was open and was without any cover.
In the accident, the woman received serious injuries and went into a coma due to her critical condition.
Soon after receiving the report, the Rescue 1122 team shifted to a hospital in Lahore but later died.
It is necessary to mention here that just days before, two people died when they fell into an open manhole.
After the incident, Kasur Deputy Commissioner Aurangzeb Haider Khan and the Pattoki Assistant Commissioner Mukkaram Sultan were made officers on special duty, while two officials of the Pattoki municipal committee—Chief Executive Officer Umer Farooq and Maintenance Officer Zulqernain Ali—were booked under Section 322 of the PPC.
Scores of people had staged a protest demonstration against the administration for leaving a number of manholes uncovered.
