Body of a first-year student, hanging from the roof of a hostel room, has been found at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) in Swabi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
As per the text of the FIR registered by the police, the body of Arsalan Riaz, son of Riaz Hussain, which was spotted at Sehri time, was shifted to a hospital.
According to the police’s initial report, the student committed suicide; however, the cause of the suicide is not yet known, and the police are investigating the incident from different angles.
Sources told the 24News TV channel that the roommate of the student was not in the room at the time of the incident since he had gone to his hometown.
On the other hand, the students blocked a road in front of the university’s main gate to protest the incident.
The protestors were of the view that if medical aid had been provided to Arsalan on time, his life could have been saved.
They have also demanded action against the hostel warden and other concerned employees.
However, later following successful negotiations between the students and the university’s administration, the former ended the blockade of the road.
The GIKI’s administration has suspended the DSA and the warden for showing negligence.
Apologizing to the students, the administration has said that the incident is being investigated and that an inquiry report will be submitted within seven days.
