Charlize Theron has revealed that her children aren't the least bit impressed by her successful film career.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, the Oscar-winning actress shared that her two kids, Jackson (12) and August (9), keep her grounded by showing "zero respect" for her accomplishments on screen.
“My children have zero respect for me,” Theron said with a laugh. “It’s unbelievable. I mean, I’m a pretty humble person, but sometimes I have to remind them, ‘There’s a freaking Oscar right there.’ Still, they’re just not impressed.”
The South African star recounted a moment when her youngest compared one of her own stunts to a daring scene performed by Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning—and not in her favor.
“My kids were with me while I filmed The Old Guard 2, and I did this intense sequence—almost all of it shot on a real helicopter trying to shake me off like a rag doll. It took two weeks to get it done, and I felt really proud of it,” she explained.
“But then yesterday, my child looked at a poster of Tom Cruise and said, ‘It’s weird, he looks way cooler than you did when you were hanging off that helicopter.’ And I was like, ‘Come on, I was literally hanging off a helicopter—can I get a little credit?’”
Theron adopted Jackson in 2012 and August in 2015.
The Old Guard 2 is set to premiere on Netflix on July 2, while Cruise’s newest Mission: Impossible installment arrives in theaters later this month.
