In its latest push to combat online fraud, Google has rolled out a powerful new lineup of AI-driven scam detection features aimed at protecting users across Chrome, Google Search, and Android devices.
At the heart of these tools is Gemini Nano, Google's on-device large language model (LLM), which now plays a frontline role in identifying suspicious websites and guarding users from remote tech support scams. This move marks a growing trend at Google: using its own artificial intelligence to move beyond traditional search and step directly into the world of real-time cybersecurity defense.
The company says Gemini Nano is already at work flagging shady activity and will soon extend its reach to offer even deeper protection across Android platforms.
Among the new features, Chrome for Android is getting smarter with the launch of AI-powered scam notification alerts. If a site starts spamming you with shady-looking notifications, Chrome will intervene — letting you unsubscribe or review what was blocked. If it turns out to be a false alarm, users can override the system and allow future alerts from that site.
Meanwhile, Google Messages and the Phone by Google app are also joining the AI fight. A new scam detection feature now warns users when incoming texts or calls look suspicious — but with a human-friendly twist: you're still in control. If Google gets it wrong, you can allow future messages or calls from the same source.
“Scams are evolving fast, but so are we,” said a Google spokesperson. “AI gives us a fighting chance to outsmart fraudsters at scale — and we’re just getting started.”
As digital scams grow more sophisticated, Google’s initiative signals a broader industry shift toward AI as a protective shield, not just a productivity tool. From phishing texts to fake pop-ups, the search giant wants users to feel safer without needing to become tech experts themselves.
