The Supreme Court of Pakistan Friday officially announced its summer vacation schedule for 2025, which will begin on Monday, June 16, and continue until Monday, September 8, according to a press release issued today by the court’s Public Relations Office.

However, in a significant move aimed at reducing the backlog of pending cases, Chief Justice of Pakistan has limited the vacation period for Supreme Court judges to one month only.

Judges have been instructed to communicate their chosen leave dates and are also required to serve 15 days at a registry of their choice, while the remainder of their time will be spent at the Principal Seat in Islamabad.

For members of the Constitutional Bench, vacation periods will be conditional, depending on the progress and schedule of ongoing constitutional proceedings, the statement added.

The court emphasised that this “pragmatic approach” is part of a broader commitment to maintaining access to justice year-round and addressing the growing backlog of cases.

The decision reflects the judiciary's evolving stance on institutional efficiency, aiming to balance the need for recess with the urgency of delivering justice without delay.
