The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across several parts of the country from May 11 to May 12, issuing an alert for citizens, farmers, and relevant authorities, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.
According to the forecast, a new western weather system is expected to enter the upper regions from May 10, bringing unstable weather conditions across multiple provinces.
Rain is likely in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat, and the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
In Punjab, rainfall is also expected in major cities, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, and Kasur.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) has also issued an alert warning of intermittent heavy rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds across most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from May 10 to May 12.
The authority has directed all district administrations to remain on high alert and ensure preparedness for any emergency.
According to the forecast, heavy rainfall is expected in northern and hilly areas, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, and Abbottabad.
In Balochistan, rain and windstorms are expected in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Kalat, and northern parts of the province, while some areas may also experience hailstorms and gusty winds.
The Met Office also warned of dust storms in parts of Sindh between May 11 and May 13, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar.
Southern Punjab and parts of Balochistan are likely to remain under intense heat conditions despite changing weather patterns elsewhere.
Officials have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay in safe locations during severe weather, and remain updated on forecasts, especially those visiting tourist destinations.
Farmers have also been urged to take precautionary measures to protect crops and livestock from possible damage due to strong winds and hailstorms.
Other districts including Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Kohat, Kurram, Orakzai, Khyber, Bajaur, Mohmand, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, and Tank are also likely to experience rain, thunderstorms and strong winds.
In low-lying urban areas such as Peshawar, Mardan and Nowshera, there is a risk of urban flooding, and citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures.
The authority further cautioned that strong winds and hailstorms could damage weak structures, electric poles and solar panels.
Farmers across the province have been advised to protect standing crops, which may also be affected by adverse weather conditions.
PDMA has instructed district administrations to ensure advance arrangements, readiness of rescue teams, and availability of necessary resources to deal with any emergency situation.
