Multan has emerged as the most polluted city in Pakistan as its air quality continues to deteriorate, recording dangerously high pollution levels on Sunday.
According to data, the city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 179 points, placing it in the “unhealthy” category.
At various locations across the city, the AQI levels varied significantly.
Gulgashat recorded 210 points, while the Metropolitan Corporation Office area logged 190 points.
Similarly, Khanewal Road reported 175, Multan Cantonment registered a hazardous 242, and Industrial Estate recorded 157 points.
Environmental experts have warned that the worsening smog is causing a rise in respiratory, eye, and throat infections among residents.
Health professionals have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and wear masks when stepping outside.
Meanwhile, authorities have launched crackdowns against garbage burning and smoke-emitting vehicles to help reduce pollution levels.
