A tenth monsoon spell has begun to wreak havoc across Sindh, with more than 100 mm of rain expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, and several other cities. The Meteorological Department has warned of potential urban flooding, forecasting that the rains may persist until tomorrow, September 10. In response, schools in Hyderabad have been closed, and several private schools in Karachi have declared a holiday as a precaution.
Met Office warning for Karachi:
Rain showers started early this morning in various parts of Karachi. The weather department has specifically warned of heavy downpours likely to cause urban flooding in the city. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected throughout Karachi from today till September 10.
Thunderstorms with rain in Islamabad predicted:
In Islamabad, the skies remain partly cloudy today, with the Met Office predicting thunderstorms with rain in isolated areas. The ongoing downpours have also resulted in both Tarbela and Rawal dams filling to capacity once again.
Rainfall forecasted for Lahore:
In Lahore, the weather department has forecast rainfall by evening. The city’s maximum temperature is expected to hover around 32°C, with wind speeds of 3 km/h and humidity levels potentially reaching 91%.
Hyderabad receives 85mm of rain:
Hyderabad continues to experience both light and heavy rain. Over the past 24 hours, 85mm of rain was recorded in the city, while Latifabad received 63mm. Intermittent rain is likely to continue today. After heavy overnight showers, normal life remains disrupted, with roads and streets across the city resembling ponds. Water has accumulated on key roads, including Thandi Sarak, Pathan Colony, Maki Shah Road, and Qadam Gah Mola Ali Road.
Second consecutive day of rain in Khairpur:
In Khairpur, the rain has continued for a second consecutive day, flooding low-lying areas and crippling daily life. The city is facing widespread power outages due to the downpour. In Khairpur Nathan Shah and Mehar, continuous rainfall has triggered flooding in local streams and drains. The resulting floodwaters have cut off villages from the towns of Khairpur Nathan Shah and Mehar.
In Obaro tehsil, drainage has become a critical issue as rainwater has yet to be cleared from several neighbourhoods. Streets and alleys continue to resemble waterlogged basins. The cotton crop in these areas has also suffered substantial damage due to waterlogging and consistent rain.
Heavier rainfall in Nawabshah, Moenjodaro:
Rain has started in and around Larkana and Moenjodaro, while Nawabshah and its surroundings are also receiving heavier rainfall. Low-lying areas of the city have flooded, with water entering houses and shops, and several electricity feeders have tripped.
Five injured in hospital roof collapse in Hyderabad
Five people became seriously injured when the roof of the gynecology ward of Bhatai Hospital collapsed due to heavy rains in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
According to Edhi volunteers, all the injured persons were immediately shifted to Civil Hospital.
Earlier in June 2025, two children lost their lives, and 11 more were injured, in addition to two adults, as the roof of a seminary collapsed after rainfall in Tandojam town of Hyderabad. The incident happened in Siddique Akbar seminary in the town's Muzaffarabad Colony.
According to Liaquat University Hospital, children aged between seven to 13 years, were admitted to the hospital. Most of them sustained head and leg injuries.
They said that 80-year-old Zubaida Rauf and 37-year-old Hafiz Shabir were also among the injured. The deceased have been identified as Zain and Waseeullah, both aged 10 years.
