TikTok removes 18.5m videos in Pakistan for violating guidelines

TikTok, the renowned short-form video platform, has taken stringent action against a staggering 18.5 million videos in Pakistan during the last quarter of 2023, citing violations of its guidelines, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

The social media giant, owned by ByteDance, made this revelation in a recent statement, highlighting its unwavering commitment to combatting violations effectively.

According to the press release issued by TikTok, the platform aggressively targeted spam accounts and related content, implementing robust measures to curb their proliferation. The unveiling of the latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report for the fourth quarter of 2023 underscores TikTok's dedication to fostering a secure online environment, emphasizing its resolve to ensure a safe platform for its global community.

During the period from October to December 2023, TikTok's proactive measures resulted in the removal of a staggering 176,461,963 videos worldwide, constituting approximately 1.0% of all videos uploaded on the platform. Of these, 128,300,584 videos were identified and removed through automated detection technologies, while 8,038,106 videos were reinstated upon further review.

Impressively, a staggering 95.3% of videos violating guidelines were promptly removed within 24 hours of posting, with the platform boasting a global proactive removal rate of 99.5% for the quarter.

In a concerted effort to protect younger users, TikTok also purged 19,848,855 accounts suspected of belonging to individuals under the age of 13, as outlined in the press release.

"TikTok's Community Guidelines are meticulously crafted to cultivate an environment that is safe, inclusive, and authentic for all users, without exceptions. The guidelines are enforced uniformly across all content and users, with TikTok striving for consistency and fairness in its enforcement actions," the statement affirmed.
