Lahore High Court’s Justice Shahid Kareem has hinted that Punjab authorities must prepare for a one-week environmental lockdown to improve Lahore's air quality index, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Hearing the case about the smog in Lahore on Wednesday, Justice Shahid Kareem remarked that Punjab authorities should take adequate measures for an environmental lockdown to clear Lahore's air on the AQI.

The judge remarked that every concerned department should meet and consult on the proposal for the ‘environmental emergency’.

The judge stressed for immediate measures for better air quality as many brick kilns are still operating without the latest technology and polluting the air.

PDMA Additional Director said the holiday on Monday lowered down the AQI of Lahore from 600 to 400.

The applicant pleaded with the court that there should be a ban on vehicles without M-tag.

Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) lawyer told court that the cooperation has launched anti-encroachment squads. The court has adjourned the hearing for a week.
