As the people of Karachi are facing the triple challenge of coronavirus, hot/humid weather and hours-long power outages, even a ruling party lawmaker has been forced to raise his voice, asking Prime Minister Imran Khan to take notice of the issue and fix the utility service.

24NewsHD TV channel reported that Rabistan Khan – a Sindh Assembly member elected from the port city on a PTI ticket – in a letter addressed to the prime minister said Karachi, once known as the City of Lights, had been covered by darkness.

He said the coronavirus patients were at their homes while going through the quarantine period but the K-Electric had made the lives miserable through unbearable loadshedding in hot and humid weather.

The letter was written as different areas of the city are experiencing 12 and even 14 hours of loadshedding.

Rabistan said various parts of Karachi had been witnessing unannounced power outages as the K-Electric opted for committing injustices against the citizens.

The K-Electric performs the dual functions of power generation and distribution but has been unable to cater to the needs of the megacity, resulting in the repeated demands for the federal government intervention.

Earlier on Tuesday, 24NewsHD TV channel reported that the Shanghai Electric had again requested the Pakistan Stock Exchange that it was interested in buying 66.40 percent shares of K-Electric.
