South Africa defeated Pakistan by 17 runs in the 15th match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup at Sydney on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 137 runs to win, Pakistan could manage to score 119 for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. They could not overcome the tight line and length with which the South African bowlers knitted their plan to restrict the greenshirts.

The main scorers for Pakistan were Aliya Riaz who was unbeaten at 39 and Javeria Khan, captain of the Pakistani side in absence of Bismah, collected 31 runs.

Earlier, South Africa won the toss and chose to bat, scoring 136 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

L Wolvaadet was the top-scorer with 53 runs off 36 balls studded with eight fours. The other notable batsman was M Kapp scoring 31 runs off 32 balls.

For Pakistan, Diana Baig took two wickets for 19 runs in her allotted four overs.
