He said it is not an issue to print 1600 ballot papers.

Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood said the government has full confidence in the ECP regarding the Senate polls.

“The sale and purchase of votes in the Senate elections can be stopped. The opinion of the Supreme Court on the reference is the position of the PTI,” he claimed.

Both ministers were talking outside the ECP office in Islamabad after meeting with the ECP officials, along with PTI leader and former Law Minister for Law Babar Awan and Advisor to Prime Minister on Accountability and Interior Mirza Shahzad Akbar.

The TV channel quoting its sources said an important meeting of the ECP is underway to discuss how Senate elections will be held.

The meeting is being chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner to discuss the opinion of the court.

Babar Awan said para number 3, 5, and 6 of the SCP verdict (opinion) on the Presidential Reference about open ballot is very important.

“Further in terms of Article 220 of the Constitution, all the executive authorities in the Federation and Provinces are obliged to assist the Commissioner and the Election Commission of Pakistan in the discharge of his or their functions, as provided for in Article 218(3) of the Constitution,” the opinion of country’s Supreme Court reads.
