The government increased the LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) price by Rs22 per kilogram as the people were yet to celebrate the cut in the prices of petroleum products.

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the new per kg price of LPG has been fixed at 112 after the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) issued a notification in this regard.

It means 11.8 kilogram cylinder used for domestic purposes would now be available for Rs1,322 after an increase of Rs245.

The latest hike in the summer season is quite interesting given the fact that the LPG demand and consumption is reduced during this period of the year.

On the other hand, the 24NewsHD correspondent from Multan reported that the price of the cylinder used for commercial purposes had reached Rs5,090 after an increase of Rs984.

The correspondent from Faisalabad quoted a rickshaw driver as saying that the government should reduce the LPG price.

It is important to note that small LPG cylinders are used in rickshaws as it minimises the fuel cost.

Earlier on Thursday, the federal government reduced the price of petrol and light by Rs 15 per litre each.

Meanwhile, there was an Rs30 per litre reduction in kerosene oil price and by Rs25.15 in that of high-speed diesel (HSD).

The PTI government has been facing severe criticism for not slashing the POL prices despite the fact that the oil price plummeted in international market to a historic low.

That’s why some opposition leaders have been calling for reducing the prices by up to Rs50 per litre.
