President Alvi, PM pay tribute to workers on Labour Day

President Arif Alvi has paid a tribute to the labourers for their historic struggle for their fundamental rights and suggested them to continue to play their role for the development of the country.

While speaking on the International Labour Day, the President said that “the government will take each possible step in order to improve the conditions of the labours.”

He said that the pandemic has led to the massive layoffs around the world, including Pakistan. “The coronavirus has severely affected the daily wagers, and it is due to it that the global economy is static today.”

“However, we pay a tribute to the labours for their historic struggle for their fundamental rights,” President Alvi said, and instructed the provincial governments to “intensify” their efforts in ensure the welfare and the rights of the labourers.

The President said that the incumbent government initiated Ehsaas Emergency Cash Relief Programme in order to provide urgent relief to the daily wagers.

“The government is completely aware of the troubles these daily wagers are facing due to the lockdowns.”

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that May 1 reminds us of those workers’ who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their rights.
On the International Labour Day, the PM said “Besides reminding the sanctity and integrity of the labourers, this day also reminds us of their decisive role in the development of the country.”
“Our religion teaches us to ensure social justice and human rights. The Prophet too had shown respect to the hard workers by working during the Battle of Ditch and various other occasions like this.”
PM Imran said that the incumbent government believes in “encouraging and facilitating” the daily wagers.
“Through the help of technology, we’re trying our best to provide maximum relief to the workers.”
The PM said that it is the daily wager who bore the brunt of the situation emanating from the coronavirus, and added that “The government has announced a Rs 200bn package for them.”
