South African coronavirus variant has been confirmed from a sample of a citizen of Mianwali—a native city of the Prime Minister Imran Khan, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

According to the officials of the Mianwali health administration, the South African coronavirus variant was traced in a patient named Azhar Hussain Shah, a resident of the Hashim Shah area of Mianwali.

The health officials said that they had initially sent Azhar Hussain Shah and his father Ijaz Hussain Shah's samples on April 15 and results of the tests received by the administration on April 19 with confirmation of the coronavirus.

Later, the administration has reached out to take the sample again in light of the NHI's instructions and found the South African coronavirus variant.

The official said that the samples of close relatives and neighbours of them would also be taken and if they got confirmation of African Corona there, they would seal the street after sampling.

About how the South African coronavirus variant reached Pakistan especially in the native city of the PM, the officials said that they did not found any kind of contact of the citizens with any African citizen or a foreign traveller.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) on Saturday also confirmed the federal ministry for health that a Brazilian coronavirus variant had also been reached here in Pakistan after the African coronavirus variant.
