The Punjab government has decided to introduce cuts in the pensions of the former government employees, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

As per the official sources, the World Bank has also made recommendations to the Punjab government for cutting its pension expenses.

Reforms will be introduced for the pensions of the pensioners. For that purpose, a committee headed by the ministers of finance, law and parliamentary affairs has been formed.

Secretaries of other departments will also be part of the committee that will make recommendations on various aspects to control pension expenditure.

The committee will also consider the proposals of the World Bank under the PRIDE programme.

“In Punjab, pension expenditure has reached 73 per cent. There is an urgent need for reforms to control the economic situation in the province,” said the authorities concerned.
