In the latest development in the case of Dr Maha Ali, who committed suicide by shooting herself dead in Karachi’s Defence area, police have now decided to go for the exhumation of the lady doctor’s grave and carry out a fresh autopsy to find the real facts after her father cast doubts on the medical report, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

SSP Bashir Barohi said that everything will become crystal clear after an authentic medical report of Dr Maha’s post-mortem. He said police will write a letter to the court and after getting permission from the court a team of doctors, surgeon and medico-legal officers will go to the Mirpurkhas graveyard to exhume the grave and conduct a fresh autopsy.

The TV channel reported that further examination of the crime scene revealed that Dr Maha Ali was shot in the head with the right hand. It has been reported that Jinnah Hospital Medico-Legal Officer (MLO) Dr Hassan Ahmed released a medical report of Maha Ali's death without conducting a post-mortem. Dr Hassan Ahmed’s medical report stated the bullet was hit from the left side. However, Dr Maha Ali’s father speaking at a press conference on Monday doubted this claim citing the alleged involvement of the suspects and the MLO.

He said the medical report and on the ground evidence cast doubts on suicide.

Meanwhile, District Court South Karachi has granted pre-arrest bail to two accused named in Dr Maha’s suicide case. Accused Junaid Khan and Waqas Hassan have been granted interim bail by the South District Court and restrained police from arresting the accused till September 5.

The court ordered the accused to join the police investigation in the case.

The third accused, Dr Irfan Qureshi, has also been granted bail on submitting surety bonds worth Rs0.5m by District Courts South.

The court said Irfan Qureshi has not been acquitted from the case and ordered police to submit challan after completing the investigations.

The Gizri police registered an FIR against Junaid Khan, Waqas Hassan Rizvi and dentist Dr Irfan Qureshi on the complaint of Dr Maha's father, Syed Asif Ali Shah, who held the three men responsible for his daughter's death.
He alleged that the suspects raped his daughter, hooked her to drugs, and subjected her to severe harassment, due to which she committed suicide.
On Aug 26, the family of Dr Maha Ali Shah had approached the police seeking legal action against the three persons for blackmailing and harassing her to an extent that she committed suicide.
