Former Australia fast bowler Peter Siddle has seen his widely recognised nickname “Chacha” gain renewed momentum on social media during his stint in the Pakistan Super League, after even his girlfriend used the moniker in a viral online exchange.
The 41-year-old, currently representing Multan Sultans, shared photos online following the conclusion of the league’s Lahore leg. In the comments section, his girlfriend referred to him as “Chacha” — a colloquial term meaning “uncle” — prompting widespread attention across social media platforms.
The nickname, now synonymous with Siddle, was first popularised by Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf during Australia’s Big Bash League and has since followed the veteran cricketer across various competitions.
Speaking at a press conference during the Lahore leg, Siddle said the nickname had also been embraced within the Multan Sultans dressing room.
“Iftikhar Ahmed is the local ‘Chacha’ and I am the overseas one,” he said, referring to teammate Iftikhar Ahmed in a light-hearted remark.
The label has since extended beyond Pakistan’s domestic league. In a recent post-match interaction, Australia batter Steve Smith was heard addressing Siddle as “Chacha,” highlighting how the nickname has transcended teams and leagues.
What began as a playful dressing-room quip has evolved into a cross-cultural symbol of camaraderie, underlining the informal bonds that define modern franchise cricket.
