A dramatic armed ambush in Narowal left a police constable seriously injured as two dangerous prisoners escaped CCD police custody, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to officials, the incident occurred when CCD police were transporting Zahid Hussain, alias Zahida, and Ali Raza from jail for recovery proceedings.
As the police van reached Krail Bridge, armed accomplices of the prisoners opened intense gunfire, damaging the vehicle and hitting a constable.
Both Zahid Hussain and Ali Raza, identified as hired killers with extensive criminal records involving murder, robbery, and multiple armed thefts, managed to flee with their attackers under the cover of heavy gunfire.
CCD police confirmed that the attackers had been lying in wait near the bridge before unleashing the assault.
A large-scale search operation has been launched to recapture the fugitives, with law enforcement calling them a serious threat to public safety.
