Unidentified car thieves on Tuesday opened fire on a police party when they signalled a Cultux car to stop in the jurisdiction of Taxila, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A spokesman of Taxila police said that during heavy exchange of firing one car thief who was later identified as Naseem Khan was killed.
The notorious car thief was wanted by police in various cases related to murder, dacoity and car theft.
The dead car thief was already declared as proclaimed absconder in murder and robbery cases.
Taxila police also recovered a stolen Cultux car and weapons from his possession.
Soon after the incident a heavy contingent of police accompanied by senior officials reached the spot. A search operation was underway to arrest the culprits.
